HATHA YOGA

 

Extra Gentle Yoga - For those whose bodies don't work quite like they used to because of accidents, injuries, illness or aging and who need or would like to sit in a chair for part of the class. The emphasis is on restorative movements.

Beginner Level Yoga - Step by step instruction in yoga poses and movements (asanas), breathing practices (pranayama), relaxation and meditation.

Continuing Yoga This class continues to explore and expand upon the concepts and techniques introduced in the beginning yoga classes. Students will be asked to delve in more deeply into their practice. Previous experience with hatha yoga is recommended.

Intermediate Level Yoga - A continuation of Level I or Continuing Yoga, for those who have developed a certain degree of commitment and a desire to learn more about other aspects of yoga. The asanas will be held longer, allowing each student to explore each pose more deeply, and new poses will be introduced.

 

Prenatal Yoga - Preparing for the birth of a child is only the first step in becoming a mother. During a prenatal yoga class we will move through a series of poses with the focus on breathing, strengthening and stretching muscles and relaxation techniques that provide support during the physical, mental and emotional changes women go through during pregnancy.


WORLD FUSION BELLYDANCE

Level 1 (Fundamentals) Belly Dance Fundamentals (Currently not available at Akke's Yoga Place)

This class is an introduction into the theory, style, and fundamental moves of belly dance. This class is suitable for students who are beginners, those that may have some belly dance or comparable dance experience, or experienced students wishing to refine their understanding of these foundation movements. We will explore fundamental belly dance technique focusing on posture, basic isolations, and traveling moves while weaving them into simple combos and flows.
Level 2 (Beginner) - Tribal Belly Dance Improvisational Choreography

This class is a continuation of Level 1 where the foundation moves will be reviewed and refined. Using the basic foundation movements introduced in Level 1, students will learn how to build on these moves learning how to use them in combinations, how to add layers on them (including playing finger cymbals), and how to cue them in a tribal improvisational style. Classes focus on technique drills, isolations and combinations from the American Tribal Style (ATS) and Tribal Fusion movement vocabulary and will conclude with some group improv. An understanding of basic belly fundamentals is required for this class.
Level 3 (Intermediate)- Tribal Fusion Belly Dance Performance Prep

This class is a continuation of Level 2 which focuses on further development of ATS and Tribal Fusion moves adding more advanced technique, complex layering, and involved combinations. Students also learn how to more smoothly flow moves together in a dance in both choreography and improv as well as how to interact with other dancers. This class is an exploration of belly dance performance focusing on not only belly dance technique, but also exploring personal stylization and bringing emotion into your dancing. Pre-requisite: Level 2 (Beginner) – Tribal Belly Dance Improvisational Choreography

PILATES

Be Kind To Your Spine - A Yoga and Pilates based class for those wishing to promote optimal back health. In this class we will work on building core stability, improving posture, and increasing flexibility. Participants will work to develop an increased body awareness and flexible strength which can reduce lower back and shoulder stress, tension, pain and injury. This is a fundamental, beginning level class which is accessible to those who would like a gentler approach.
