What is Hatha Yoga

For thousands of years people have practiced Hatha Yoga with the result of an improved sense of health and well being, feeling more at peace with themselves and in increased inner awareness. The most familiar and popular aspect of yoga in the West is Hatha Yoga, which refers to the physical postures and movements of the body, however this is just one branch of the giant tree of Yoga philosophy.

Hatha Yoga may be practiced by people of any age or physical condition. In case of acute or chronic illness, please consult a physician before starting yoga.

Some of the benefits from a regular practice of yoga include:

relaxation of body and release of mental tension
improved sense of balance in body and mind
improved muscle strength and tone
increase in flexibility in body and mind
purification of the digestive, respiratory, circulatory, endocrine and nervous systems an overall sense of well-being

There are many different styles of Hatha Yoga. Instructors have been trained in Integral Yoga or Integrative Yoga Therapy.

Integral Yoga was founded by H.H. Sri Swami Satchidananda. It is a scientific system which integrates the various branches of Yoga in order to bring about a complete and harmonious development of every aspect of the individual: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.

The goal of Integral Yoga is to realize the spiritual unity behind all creation and to live harmoniously as members of one universal family. This goal is achieved by maintaining our natural condition of the body in optimal health and strength, a mind well disciplined, an intellect clear and calm, a heart full of unconditional love and compassion, and a life filled with Supreme Peace and Joy.

Integrative Yoga Therapy focuses on health and wellness in the physical body, balance and integration of mind and emotion, and awakens the spiritual dimension of being.
